Why Content Curation is Important

In chapter 9 of Social Media for Strategic Communication, it talks in great detail about content curation. Content curation, according to Hootsuite, is the process of sorting through large amounts of content on the web and presenting the best posts in a meaningful and organized way. The process can include sifting, sorting, arranging, and placing found content into specific themes and then publishing that information.

Content creation is important because if your content isn't organized or posted in a way that best reaches your audience, you could lose current followers or lose the interest of new, potential followers. Curating your content is all about growth and growing your brand to the best of your ability. A key component of this is to not only share content with your audience but also share why your brand and messages are important to them. Today there is often a media overload on every platform which makes it harder for your posts to be seen or deemed as an important post for someone to stop scrolling and start reading.

Another important concept of content creation is knowing what your audience considers valuable information. You do not want to spam their feed of meaningless posts. You want to only post a few things that mean something to your audience. This can happen by determining which of your posts and topics are most successful or looking through comments to see what kind of things your audience is interested in.

Although this concept is super important to your brand, this process should not take too much time. Curating your content should become apart of your daily routine. Searching for, discovering, and sharing relevant content should not become your full-time job. Taking a few minutes each day to look for items that may be good for your audiences’ well-being is all it takes.
