A Summary of the College News Scandal So Far

The information has recently surfaced that Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, paid around $500,000 to the University of Southern California so that their daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose could attend.

Since this information was released, Loughlin, Giannulli, and around 50 others have been charged and arrested. Loughlin and Giannulli were released at bonds set at $1 million each. Their daughters have both since dropped out of USC, but were not federally charged.

Loughlin has been fired from her Hallmark show, “When the Heart Calls” and Netflix original “Fuller House.” Olivia Jade, who is a YouTube personality, has lost her sponsorships and brand deals from Sephora, Lulus, Amazon, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs Beauty, Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Smile Direct Club, Too Faced Cosmetics, Boohoo, and Unilever’s TRESemmé.

Many videos from Olivia’s channel that were previously posted have not helped the situation at hand. Olivia has made statements in the past saying she rarely attended her high school classes, and that she did not care about school.

In a video posted in early 2018, Olivia Jade stated, “I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend but I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all,” she said. “But I do want the experience of like game days, partying…I don’t really care about school, as you guys all know.”

More recently, it has surfaced that Olivia and Loughlin hinted at the scandal back in December of 2017, in a video titled “Slang Terms of 2017.” In the video, Olivia attempts to explain to her mother the popularity of the phrase "England is my city" which is a lyric by rapper Nick Crompton in the video for the song "It's Everyday Bro" by YouTube star Jake Paul.
The line was mocked on the internet since England is a country and not a city.

"If you would have said, 'England is my city,' I would say, 'Why did I pay all this money for your education?'" Loughlin joked.

Olivia Jade then laughed, and responded to her mother, “We’re gonna leave it at that.”

It is unclear what else may happen from here out as things keep surfacing, and new information keeps being released.

  1. Stuff like this is always really annoying. There are a lot of people who work really hard to get into college. A lot of us also get into debt and spend years trying to pay off our student loans. It's frustrating to see girls like this getting into good colleges that their parents pay for and not even caring about their education. I'm glad that their parents are paying the price for this. If the girls knew about the scandal, then they deserve the fallout too. However, we can't be sure what they knew just yet. The whole thing is disgraceful.

  2. I wrote about the scandal too! It is crazy to see how many insane things are happening with this incident. I hate that they lost everything from this one scandal and I hope they are able to figure things out soon.
