The Art of Social Media: Recap

After finishing Guy Kawasaki's, The Art of Social Media , I have learned quite a bit from this book regarding social media and all the different way to optimize each platform. Kawasaki introduced useful platforms that I had never heard of before, explained why they were important, and how to use them in the most effective way possible.

It has become part of everyday life to keep clients and customers in the know of what's going on. Spreading the word about your specific purpose, whatever that may be, can be done so easily if you take steps in the right direction of how you present and post your social media. The top three things I've learned are to make your social media account presentable, use hashtags, and share!

Making your social media look presentable and "pretty" could really make or break your success on social media. Having an attractive profile picture and header, if the option is there, is important because it is going to be the first thing that new people will see when they go to your page. If it looks sloppy and not well put together you're not as likely to grab their attention, and it will not look as professional as other pages.

Hashtags allow followers to engage with you, your company as a whole, and other followers of your company. This will create a conversation, and the conversation will just keep going and you will get more and more publicity for your company. Keeping the hashtags short is vital because if your hashtag is too long, it is harder for your audience to remember and they will be less likely to use it. It is also important to make sure you are clear of what the hashtag is that you want the audience to use, so posting it around your website, social media pages, or around places at events will help spread the word of your hashtag so that it is actually used.

Lastly, Kawasaki often talks about the importance of sharing and resharing not only your social media links among other social media but also others' resharing other's social medias. When you link your social media accounts to other social media accounts, you may reach more people that may not have known you had social media on another platform. This way you're able to curate the content they see and impact them more when they follow you on more than one platform. Resharing your own posts from the same platform is also important because sometimes it is missed the first time around because not all of your followers are going to be online at the same time. Resharing others work is also important, it shows the respect that you have for other content creators, but it also may open up possibilities of guest posts which is also really popular and successful among social media.
