Making the Best of Your Channel

Many people do not truly see the perks or the need for YouTube as a social media when they are creating profiles for their businesses. What these people don't know is YouTube is one of the fastest growing platforms out there right now, and making your channel attractive and wanting people to come back for more is extremely important. After reading through chapter eight of Guy Kawasaki's,  The Art of Social Media , I have new insight into how to make my channel more attractive. Kawasaki suggests that you create a custom channel trailer, do live streams, and not to wear patterned or striped clothing. All of these things are things I have seen on successful YouTube channels either for personal use and for companies. I have seen all of these tools make a channel more appealing, trailers for your channel can make a personal or company branding a lot more appealing. People love feeling close to whoever they are trying to follow so having a visual aid that makes the person o

Why Social Media is Important in PR

Image
According to the Public Relations Society of America, the definition of public relations, or PR, is " is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics." In order to do this, organizations must keep in touch with their customers, clients, etc. In today's society, there is no better way to do this, than social media. There are so many different types of social media to use and the type used is based on the audience the organization is working with. For example, if they are trying to reach an older demographic, Facebook or Instagram might be more appropriate than Twitter or Snapchat. The type of social media used is also based on the type of product, service, or statement the company is trying to make.  Social media can be used in many different ways to enhance public relations and make it more effective. Social media allows organizations to personally keep in touch with their publics on a d

5 Tips for Traveling on a Budget

Image
Although it is a snowy mess outside and the temperatures are freezing, spring and summer will be here before we know it, and it is time to start planning the things you want to see this year and the places you want to go. Here are a few things that could help make your trip cost effective: 1. Plan Ahead! Depending on where you're traveling how early you start planning will vary on where you're going and how long you're planning to be there. Although spontaneous trips are fun and exciting, they end up costing more than you would expect. By planning early you can get your flights cheaper, decide if flying is the best option, find cheaper hotels, find cheap and fun activities to do ahead of time, etc.  2. To Fly or Not to Fly Although flying to your destination may seem necessary for a true vacation experience, it can be pricey. If you're staying in the United States, road trip it! If you're going to a destination that requires you to fly overseas, e

Timing Your Tweets

Image
Have you ever wondered how companies and businesses stay so active on social media? Whether it is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest, something is almost always be shared, posted, or reposted. This is getting easier and easier to do with the functions of stories, retweeting and sharing, but I have always been curious as to how these posts are being kept up with and monitored.  When reading through the first three chapters of Guy Kawasaki's, The Art of Social Media , I thought the idea of setting up timers for your posts and tweets was really interesting, and something I had never thought of doing. This would be really beneficial if your company, brand, etc. needed things posted throughout all times of the day especially since it isn't always convenient to have to stop the work you're doing to make a social media post. This would also help out a lot if you were going on vacation and still needed to make posts as well, this allows the "content monster" t

Netflix is Raising its Price!

Netflix is everyone's favorite pastime and distraction from studying, but everyone is into different shows. Netflix offers so many different genres of old shows, new shows, and Netflix originals, but is it worth the monthly price increase?                                                      We have all fallen victim to binge-watching shows on Netflix for hours on end. The last month or so I have been watching Friends, because I had never seen it, and I'm already on season 7. Although older shows like Friends, Glee, Gilmore Girls, and Vampire Diaries are hits, Netflix recently has been praised for their original shows and movies. Movies like Bandersnatch, Birdbox,  To All The Boys I've Loved Before, Dumplin'  and tour documentaries like Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour . All of these movies have been raved about all over social media recently.  Netflix original shows that are the top rated include hits like Stranger Things, Fuller House, Haters Back Off, You,

Welcome to my Page!

Hi guys! My name is Danielle Fleshood, and I thought it was appropriate to make my first blog post a little introduction about me and my life. I was born in Indiana, but I've lived in Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio as well. My family currently lives in Franklin, OH which is about an hour and a half from Ohio Northern. I am a communication major with a minor in graphic design, and I am considering minoring in social media as well. My goal is to work for a promo team or do merch design for a radio station or record company. I live with my 13-year-old sister, 5-year-old sister, my adorable dog, and parents.  When it comes to hobbies, I love drawing, doing makeup and going to concerts. I've been drawing since I was 6-years-old, and I really enjoy drawing people. I also recently started drawing more on my laptop using different apps and tools. I've been doing makeup for about 8 months but a lot of the artistry for that stems from my love for d
